Within this sector, some of the more
challenging projects with which we have worked are a
number of museums. With many causes there is a common
expectation of government funding and this is particularly
true for museums.
National
Coal Mining Museum Phase 1 of the development plan included
in vital conservation work, a new interpretation
centre, upgraded visitor facilities and
the construction of a new education wing.
Phase 2 covers a rail link to Hope Pit
and a new display of the social history
of mining. Following Heritage Lottery
Fund support the targets were set at £1.4
million for Phase 1 and £600,000 for Phase
2. Prince Philip opened the new Phase
1 buildings in July 2002 and funding for
the completion of Phase 2 is well under
way.
